Dass hier ein besonderes Augenmerk auf der Architektur liegt, ist selbstverständlich. Damit ist das kommende Erweiterungspack auch für anspruchsvolle Gemüter genau das Richtige, um den Sims ein schönes Wohnambiente zu schenken. Was sich nach Singledasein oder bunt gemischter Wohnkultur anhört, ist aber genauso für Familien denkbar. Man kann die lieben Kleinen beim Aufwachsen beobachten. Once a Sim has moved in, that's where some restrictions kick in. As a rental, Sims can't make any structural changes to their home, so no adding rooms when that new baby comes along. They also can't decorate any of the outside or common areas. They can, of course, change the walls, floors and ceilings and decorate normally. The good news is that rentals have landlords who will come in to make repairs for free and do maintenance in all common areas. Sims will also be responsible for paying the rent every week.

Should that become a bit onerous, apartment-dwelling Sims can take in a roommate. Roommates begin life as NPCs that will move about independently of the player (though the player can check on their status and characteristics) and pay their half of the rent as long as their "roommate satisfaction" is high enough. Should a Sim and a roommate hit it off, they can date, become a family and come under the player's control as normal.
